The Superflat Art Movement is very interesting and according to many it is the dominant 21st century manifesto driven art movement in the world. The Superflat Art Movement also gave rise to other art movements namely SoFlo Superflat and The Superstroke Art Movement.
SoFlo Superflat describes a genre of art that started in the U.S.A. somewhere in the 1990's. It then spread to South Florida where the artists started combining super bright colors and ultra flat images. The subject matters are very diverse and it is an outcrop of the Japanese Superflat Art Movement, founded by Takashi Murakami in 2001.
In 2008 the South African artist Conrad Bo, started an art movement called Superstroke, that he claims was the opposite of Superflat. He wrote a manifesto and the emphasis was on expressive and even violent brush strokes. He also mentioned that where Superflat paintings are very polished, precise and flat, Superstroke paintings should be very textured, expressive and good Superstroke paintings should look like a type of explosion.
Here are some examples of Superstroke, Superflat and SoFlo Superflat paintings.
